Clear, credible websites for service-based businesses
Most small businesses don’t need a complex website. They need one that explains what they do, looks like they mean it, and doesn’t fall apart the moment they try to update it themselves.
I’ve seen plenty of good businesses held back by websites that are confusing, overcomplicated or simply out of date.
That’s what I build: Squarespace websites for service-based businesses, structured, well-considered and built to be handed over properly at the end.
What’s included in a Squarespace website build or refresh
Projects tend to fall into one of three shapes.
New builds are for businesses starting from scratch, or moving on from something that was never quite right. The emphasis is on structure, page hierarchy and content that reflects how the business actually works.
Refreshes are for sites that are basically sound but no longer represent the business properly. The focus is on clarity and usability rather than redesigning for the sake of it.
Rebuilds are for existing sites too tangled to salvage, where the content, structure or direction needs more careful work. All rebuilds are done on Squarespace only. That’s not a limitation, it’s the point.
A recent example is the rebuild of a plumbing and heating website for a Brighton-based business.

A straightforward way to work together
The process is collaborative, but guided. I’ll ask questions about the business before getting into the website details, then make practical recommendations about structure, content and layout.
Communication stays straightforward, and the site is built to be handed over properly so you are not left dependent on me for every small change.

SEO and site structure considered from day one
Search visibility is part of the build, not something bolted on afterwards.
That means clear pages, sensible hierarchy, content that says what the business actually does, and technical foundations that search engines can make sense of.
I use Squarespace’s built-in SEO tools alongside practical technical SEO basics, including metadata, heading structure, internal linking, crawlability and indexing.
It won’t guarantee rankings, and I won’t pretend it will. But getting the foundations right gives your website a fair chance.
For local service businesses, this also supports local visibility by making it clearer what you do, where you work and who you help.
You can see how this works in a recent Squarespace construction website rebuild case study.
Is this the right fit for your business?
This is usually a good fit for service-based businesses that are already established, but whose website no longer reflects the quality of their work.
That might include trades, consultants, local firms, professional services or specialist businesses that need clearer messaging, better structure and a site they can manage without constant developer support.
It is not the right fit if you need complex custom functionality, large-scale development or a platform other than Squarespace.

Frequently asked questions about Squarespace website design
Here are some common questions about Squarespace website design and how I work, including my process for building websites.
-
It depends on the size and complexity of the site. Most small business websites fall into a fairly defined range, and I’ll give you a clear quote after a short initial call. No mystery pricing.
Smaller refreshes and full rebuilds are priced differently, so I’ll always recommend the route that fits the job rather than pushing everything into a full rebuild.

Most projects take four to six weeks from start to launch, depending on content readiness and scope. The main thing that slows projects down is content. If you’ve got copy and images ready, things move quickly.
-
Yes. Every website includes basic SEO setup: page structure, metadata, headings, internal links and on-page optimisation. The aim is to get the site set up properly from the start, not treat SEO as an afterthought.
