A clear, practical approach to websites
I’m a Brighton-based freelance Squarespace web designer and SEO consultant, working with small, service-based businesses across Brighton, Hove, Sussex, and across the UK.
Before going independent I spent nearly thirteen years in the same organisation, working in communications and digital leadership. That kind of tenure tends to shape how you work. You learn to make sensible decisions rather than fashionable ones, to think about whether something will still be working in three years, and to communicate clearly with people who have better things to do than decode jargon.
That's broadly how I approach client work now.
Background and experience
The communications and digital work I did before going independent covered strategy, content, web, and the kind of cross-organisational projects where you have to bring different people with you rather than just deliver a brief.
It was complex enough that I'm comfortable with strategic thinking, and hands-on enough that I'm not precious about the practical work.
My SEO knowledge is grounded in professional training and several years of applied client work.
That means I think about search in terms of structure, content and clarity rather than just keywords, which is where most small business SEO problems actually live.
How I work
Projects are handled directly with me. No account managers, no handoffs, no explaining yourself to someone new halfway through.
Most clients find the process straightforward. Things get done when they're supposed to, the communication is clear, and the project doesn't become something they have to manage on top of everything else.
A few have ended up calling me about broader digital and marketing questions well after the original project closed, which I take as a reasonable sign that the working relationship went well.
I try to be straightforward to work with. I'll tell you what I think, I'll be honest if something isn't the right call, and I'll get on with it.

For small service businesses it offers the right balance of flexibility, stability and ease of maintenance.
You can update the site yourself without needing a developer, the underlying structure is clean enough to support good SEO, and it doesn't require ongoing technical management to keep working properly.
It's a platform built for long-term ownership, not just launch day. That matters more than most people think when they're choosing where to build.
